People often picture an ignition interlock as a simple handheld device that plugs in. The handset is only part of it. The real work happens under the dash — and it's the reason you want a qualified, certified installer, not the cheapest option.
To make the device control whether your vehicle starts, the installer wires it into the ignition and starter circuit. On many vehicles that also means integrating with the shifter or transmission interlock. It requires cutting, splicing, and routing wiring cleanly, then testing that everything — starting, accessories, dash lights — behaves exactly as it should.
Done wrong, an interlock install leads to intermittent no-starts, blown fuses, warning lights, and false readings that can hurt your compliance record. A trained, certified installer who does this work regularly wires it correctly the first time, so your vehicle runs normally and your device reports accurately.
