If yours was built in roughly the last decade, there's a camera mounted behind the windshield running features like lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise. Replace the glass and that camera has to be recalibrated. Here's why, and how it works.

Why moving the glass matters

The camera reads the road through a precise section of the windshield. When the glass comes out and a new one goes in, the camera's aim shifts — and even a millimeter off at the windshield becomes several feet of error down the road. Skip the recalibration and your safety systems may brake late, drift, or misread lane lines.

Static vs. dynamic

• Static recalibration is done in the shop with your vehicle parked, using manufacturer targets set at measured distances and factory-level scan tools.
• Dynamic recalibration is done by driving the vehicle at set speeds on well-marked roads while a scan tool calibrates the camera against real-world lanes.

Many vehicles need one; some need both. We do both, in-shop, calibrated to the manufacturer's spec before your vehicle leaves us.
